The Beantown Battle – Empire v Nation. Round 1!

Round 1 of the battle at Beantown went to the Yankees.

The game was just over 3 hours which was a complete suprise to me. Joba played a really good game in his first game at Fenway as a starter. Joba completely out pitched Josh in the game he went 7 innings only allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and struck out 9. Josh went 7 innings as well allowing 9 hits, 1 run and struck out only 6. The one run Josh gave up was to a Abreu on a Giambi hit.

So looking at a stat prespective it was a good game for Joba.

The only problem i had in the game was Kyle (you don’t want to know the xrated name i call him) Farnsworth. Kyle came into the game 2nd pitch of the game to of all people Lowrie. He then proceeded to pitch to Varitek who lucky for Kyle pops up to Jeter. Then here comes the old Kyle who i can’t stand pitched a ball to Crisp he hit it softly towards Kyle. Kyle then makes a complete hash of the situation, by picking the ball up at the 1st base line, then trying to tag out Crisp he then drops the ball and doesnt make the out. So Joe had to go to Mo to come into get a 5 out save. Which he successfully does.

So if it wasnt for the Mo and Joba combo the Yankees could have lost the game.

Series score at the moment: 1 -0 Yankees.

As for Sundays game it looks like it could be Ponson and Lester going at it. So its going to be a test for the Yankees and Ponson. Please pray this is a good game for Ponson.

Lets Go Yankees.

Andy and Tim next up.

Report to follow tomorrow.

The Beantown Battle – Empire v Nation.

It is that time of season again when the Yankees and the Bosox go to battle. The venue for this battle is Fenway Park. I love the rivalry between these clubs and it goes back for years and i hate the name that the Yankees got from the Red sox President Larry Lucchino. The Evil Empire name came due to the bitterness of Larry speaking to the New York Times because the Red Sox lost out to the Yankees in a battle in a bidding war for pitcher José Contreras. All i can say its is total sour grapes and look at the Yankees 26 World Series rings compaired to a measley 7. So this comment from Larry has added more spice to the battle that was already there. I sometimes wonder if there will be a bloodbath in one of these games. You’ll never know until the teams are in the heat of the battle what the adrenaline can do to a player.  I know from my soccer fandom how bad rivalries can be.

So this series is going to be really hard fought and long. I suggest that you take some painkillers or have a quilt, duvet or a doona ready for this series so if you nod off to sleep you are comfortable. Other things that you can do to keep yourself awake is keep pinching yourself or load up on caffine either coffee, Red Bull or something else. Sadly the caffine thing is out for me as i can’t touch the stuff.  I haven’t know a game to be short from my experience i would say 3 – 4 hrs is a likely length of the game. The ESPN Sunday game is going to be broadcast here in the UK so i will lose alot of sleep this weekend.

OK the Pitching match ups are really good.

In the Leading Off spot pitching wise is the futures of both teams in Joba Chamberlain v Josh Beckett.

Joba so far this season is 2-3 with a 2.52 era, Beckett is 9-6 with a 3.98 ERA. So its going to be a close one Joba so far has not given up more than three earned runs in any of his starts. Beckett in seven Fenway starts, he is 5-1 with a 4.82 ERA but bad news for the Yankees hes 3-0 against this season with a 3.92 ERA. So this is going to be a close one to call its just who gets on top with first pitch strikes will win the battle.

Result: 1-0 Yankees, I hope but its going to be close. Score i dont know and wont predict it.

Saturdays game is going to be the two experienced men in the Red Sox and Yankees battle in Tim Wakefield and Andy Pettitte.

Tim is so far this season is 6-7 with a 3.69 ERA and the knuckleballer is a difficult one to decide on for me. Andy record this season so far is 11-7 with a 3.86 ERA. Andy in his last game in Oakland he played a very good game and struck out five of the first 11 hitters in the 114-pitch outing. The Yankees didn’t need to go to the pen in that game.

Result:  2-0. Andy should walk over Tim but who knows.

Sundays game is going to be crucial for the team. As of writing this the Yankees hadnt put up on their website who was going to be the pitcher for this game so who know. I hope its not Sydney. Who ever it will be will be against the come back kid from cancer in John Lester. I am in two minds for this game, i have Lester on a fantasy team against my No Red sox rule. I want the Yankees to win of course first and formost.

Result:  unknown due to the fact of not know who Lester is going to be facing.

So with the stage set for the battle. Let the Battle commence.

I hope to hear LETS GO YANKEES from the ballpark.  Also i want to see A-rod hit a few over the Green Monster and maybe foul a ball of to hit the Boston mascot Wally. That mascot is so stupid. Lucky the Yankees are so classy they dont have a mascot the team is enough to get the fans excited.

To finish off . There is a God after a certain person did something that i wanted him to do and call out the stupid (beeping) a*****e live on the programme today. Good on you.

ASG – longest ASG in History

OK i am still recovering from the ASG. I stayed up til 6.38am my time to watch the whole game. I was regretting that decision later in the day.

I had the MLB.com in game show going at the same time as watching it on tv. The ingame show was done brilliantly, the show consisted of Casey Stern, Jeff (Nelli) Nelson, Jack (Black Jack) McDowell, Harold Reynolds, Seth Everett, Hal Bodley, Cory Schwartz and Mike Siano.

I was tired i wonder how tired those guys were having to talk and think of things to talk about during the game plus having to do fanfest ealier in the day.. Casey did 13 innings and said jokingly “he had accidently quit smoking.” Yea right.

I was praying for the game to end by 5.30 am here 12.30 edt.

The moment that still in my mind was the amazing was the living Hall of Famers there on the field. Seeing the Boss come out was good to see as it proved to me that the old guy was still alive. Also seeing the reaction that Jeter and Mo got on the field was amazing too. These 2 guys are the heart and sole of the club, i hate to think of the day that these 2 arent in pinstripes. The ovation that Yogi Berra got was tremendous.  I love this team.

As i am typing this the yankees are 7-1 up against the As. Lets go Yankees and hope the lay off for the all star game has helped the team.

Finally, I am pissed off at someone atm for unleashing a tirade on someone. Just shut the (beep) up.

All Star Game and Weekend.

How awesome was the Home Run Derby we are not worthy when thinking back at the 28 dingers that Josh Hamilton hit last night. He is the feel good story for the season.

Can i congratulate MLB.com for great coverage from The Home Run derby, Futures game, Celebrity and Legends Softball game and Fanfest. Great Coverage guys.

Thank you to all the Multimedia department you made the shows run so smoothly.

Thanks to the On-air talent to keep things going up front.

Now tonights the All Star Game and i am looking forward to it. Its a great way to say goodbye to the Old stadium.

By the way shut up Papelbon, its The Sandmans stadium and he will close the game.

Lets go American League.

BaseballChannel.tv

Hey, sorry i havent been keeping up with my blog but here is my next rant.

This rant is about MLB.com’s Baseballchannel.tv.

OK here goes, when I started listening/watching to the Baseball Channel or at that time it was MLBradio it was full of programming from Under The Lights with Pete McCarthy, Baseball Today, Fantasy 411, Midday and Stayin’ Hot. Then when Darryl “Ham Bone” Hamilton left to go to work at the commish office Stayin Hot went. So they brought in the Hot Stove Show with Casey Stern. Under The Lights stayed as well as the 411. Baseball Today then went to, to be replaced with Leading Off with Vinny Micucci and the late John Marzano. So there was programming on the channel from in my time zone 3pm til 6am. Which was great for me as I would be just finishing up work and I would put on John and Vinny to finish off my day, just getting home for the end of the 411. I would then settle down to watch the Midday whilst eating my dinner, then watch Bottom Line the sports talk show spin off from the Midday with Casey Stern. Which then would take me to nearly game time which was great as it would pump me up for a long and late night of baseball.

Then at the start on the 08 season MLBAM/MLB.com decided to do away with the radio/talk show aspect of their programming, which sucked to go to a very video scripted format of the shows.  So, here are the list of the shows that went, Under the Lights, “Leading Off”, Midday and Bottom Line. They kept hyping up that there was a cool show called the “Whiparound” that was going to be taking us inside the ball parks of all teams on game nights. It was going to be split into a East Show, a Central Show and a West Show. This didn’t happen it just became a 1hr show with some information but not as indepth. They resurrected Leading Off with Vinny and John but that didn’t last long because of Johns untimely passing. Which i have no problem with it being postponed. Casey Stern joined the 411 with Mike Siano, Cory Schwartz, the programme at the start grew critisim at the start for not being as viewer/podcast listener interactive. I was one of the critics of the new show format but i grew to love it again. They brought in the fave 5 which is a lot of fun. On Friday, July 11th the news came out that the 411 is moving to 4pm my time and is only going to be a 30 min show. Which in my opinion stinks. I know 30 mins is better than nothing, but why change and mess with a good thing.

As an international fan of the beautiful game, the Baseball Channel and the odd podcast show is the only way of us getting our information. In one place instead of going through millions of websites getting information.

I hope they might put some other programming onto the channel but i don’t think they will. As it looks at the moment there will only be 1hr of new daily programming and then lots of reruns of the shows that have just been aired. They spent money on doing up the studios in Manhattan for them not to be used. There is no baseball update news show now. Is MLBAM not caring about this side of programming and just waiting for the new tv channel on cable to come online.

Edit : MLB are trying to broaden the appeal of baseball
internationally. Making these changes to the shows that are on their
own website isn’t a good move. International fans won’t get the new
baseball channel on any format of our cable/digital tv packages unless
the company that supplies us give it to us but won’t because they will
believe like most US sports aren’t worth picking it up. So we lose the
programming from that MLB.com and most other websites have a code to
detect the IP addresses in their website shows that doesn’t allow them
to be broadcast outside the US and Canada.

So please sort it out for us fans outside the states that we will be
able to see the new baseball channel or sort out the programming for fans of the game that don’t have any access or little access to the latest baseball news.

Also in my opinion, the on air talent that is on the baseball channel are the best but MLBAM are not using them the way they should.

Pete McCarthy – Great host and talk show guy but wasting away in the wee hours of the morning doing the Game Recaps. Get Pete back to live programming where he is great.

Vinny Micucci – Also a great talk show host, now doing little segments for shows or on the website. Vinny needs to be back on a show as soon as possible, with a co-host where he belongs.

Casey Stern - Like the above guys a great host but isn’t showing his full potential on a now going to be a 30 min show. He needs in my opinion some show that he can just be let loose on to give his frank and honest opinions like what he did on the Bottom Line and Midday and i miss that from him.

Noah Coslov – Is a really funny guy and this “Whiparound” show for me isn’t for him.

Mike Siano/ Cory Schwartz- great guys on the show and doing the show for “free” as its not part of their day jobs i commend them for all the work they have done.  Their fantasy advice has helped me not to suck in my leagues.

Come on MLBAM do something to show off the talent of these individuals.

In my opinion the changes MLBAM made at the start of the season were awful decisions and i am bitterly dissappointed.

I love you all, i hope you don’t think bad of me but i have held my tongue long enough but that is my opinion. When the day comes that there is no programming on the website i will be heartbroken as i have taken you all to my heart and will miss you all dearly.

Subway Series?

This is my first blog as a 30 year old and i am in a grumpy mood.

YANKEES SUCKED IN GAME ONE OF THE DH
. nuff said.

Off to be old and grumpy.

The Steel City here we come!

The Yankees are still on the march up to the top of the AL East. Next Stop for us is “The Steel City” where we should walk over the Pirates but knowing the Yankees they will struggle. Why cant this club play great against smaller market teams and pitchers they havent seen before? For me that is the million dollar question.

The match ups are good for this series, kicking it off is Rasner against Tom Gorzelanny. Gorzo as i call him has a 6.59 era in 14 games with a win loss record of 5-6 with only 39 k’s and given up 12 homers. Rasner has in 8 games a win loss record of .500, 3.64 era with 31 k’s and only given up 3 homers. So looking at this match up Rasner should win it easily but its never easy with this team.

Tomorrow i will post the match up for tomorrow nights game and see what the stats say about that match up.

For my fantasy teams i need, Melky, Bobby, Arod and Posada to start hitting big for me to win my leagues.

Watched todays fantasy 411 with the dynamic trio of Mike “I work too hard playing Golf “Siano, Cory “I am the Statman” Schwartz and Casey “I’m the other guy” Stern. They were talking about their fave 5 “Chick flicks” most of them were good but some were like they were no where near chick flicks in my opinion.

Lets go Yankees!!!

Diamond Disaster??

How on Gods great earth could the Yankees not beat the Reds in the 3 game Interleague Series. The Reds got 2 out of three. Giese played a great game until he gave up the runs to allow the reds to win the game. Andy Pettitte saved the series for us and it proves to me how much of a great pitcher he is.

But again how can we just walk over the Astros and Padres but struggle against the Reds. It just boggles my mind.

It still proves to me that this great club can struggle against pitchers that they have never seen.

As of writing this the Cards are holding the redsox to a 3-3 draw. I just hope the Cards can find that winning run to help the Yankees claw back another game on that team from Boston.

5 days to go before 30 and i am getting more scared by the day. I am getting old.

Latas.

Missing???

I was watching a programme today and just felt that there was something missing from it. Oh i know what it was a certain host.

All i am hoping that there isnt something missing from the Yankees line up tonight and actually win another game.

Lets Go Yankees.

p.s. 1 week left before the Big 30.

Argh.

Are happy days here again?

With the yankees going on a winning streak. is this the start of the team getting back to the top  of the AL East. I really really hope so as i can’t take another Boston win in any sport. The Lakers were good but not good enough to beat the Celtics. I want a reason to shut up beantown.

Joba played a good game shame that he couldnt hold on one more inning to get the win but the pen is holding it together. Farnsworth has been good but i still dont trust him as far as i could throw him. Veras and Ramirez have been good so they look like they could hold the pen together.

Mo Rivera has now 20 saves so far this season, so he is 4th in saves in all of the majors with K-rod at # 1 followed by George Sherrill then that closer from boston. That boston closer tired to do a Irish jig when they won the WS then at the street party. Can i say as a Celt it was no where near a jig and it was ****.

Next up for the Yankees is the Reds with Volquez on the mound its going to be an interesting game but hes up against Mike Mussina who has a carrot dangling in front of him by the yankees organisation. He might be on for another treat if he gets the next win.

Interleague is a great thing for us and we seem to have the best interleague record in the majors so lets hope it continues against the Reds, Jay Bruce, Griffey Jr and company.

So lets hope that the 7 game winning streak continues and we get over the top of Boston.

Lets go Yankees !!!!
